The walleye bite has been a bit challenging this past week. Fish are scattered and your gonna have to work for them. Water temps are still in the low to mid 60’s but once those water temps drop below 60 look for the fall bite to kick in. Bemidji, Andrusia, and Cass are your best bet for getting a few fish. Jigs and minnows, live bait rigs, and jigging raps are producing a few fish in 10-30′. Bass fishi g remains good using plastics off the deeper weed edges and you’ll find the crappies moving out to those deep water basins.

The wind lately has been a problem and along with water levels continuing to drop fishing pressure has been light. If you have a bunk trailer where you have to float your boat off that could be a problem at some lake access’s. The walleye bite has been a bit tough this past week but if your persistent you’ll find some on Bemidji and Plantagenet. 18-24′ seems to be the depth we’re finding them at. Bass fishing remains excellent using plastics along the deeper weed edges. Crappies and bluegills are still being found off those deep cabbage areas.

Not a whole lot has changed since last week. Walleye fishing remains quite good on Bemidji, Plantagenet, and Andrusia. Live bait rigs and crawlers working the deep weed edges and the sharper breaks in 12-18′. You’ll find some nice perch in those same areas hitting jigs and minnows. Nass dishing remains excellent using plastics out on the deeper weed edges and throwing spinner baits across the top of the grass. You’ll find your best crappie and bluegills action off the deeper cabbage. Low water makes some of the boat access’s a bit difficult to get your boat launch and loaded.

The Bemidji area received some rain Monday but lakes levels are way down because of the drought and launching a boat on some lakes is difficult. Walleye fishing has remained decent on Bemidji, Plantagenet, and Andrusia in 16-22′. With the nice weather there were plenty of folks out on opening weekend. Some anglers did well on walleyes while others not so much but that is typical for opening weekend. Jigs and fatheads or shiners were the ticket for walleyes and pike. Some fish are being caught in shallow shoreline areas while others were in 12-14′ on mid lake humps. Crappies have finally moved up into the shallows along with bluegills. Water temps are in the mid 50’s. Look to Lake Bemidji, Irving, Plantagenet, Wolf, and Andrusia for walleye and pike.

The weather has been better this past week but overnight lows have been in the 20’s so what little warming we get during the day drops back down at night. Most lakes in our area the water temps are in the upper 40’s to low 50’s. The weather is turning warmer this week and opening weekend temps look to be in the mid to upper 60’s. The panfish bite should be going strong in shallow water by the weekend and look 8-12′ for walleyes. The Cass Lake chain is usually excellent for the opener as is Lake Plantagenet and Lake Bemidji.
