Learn how to take professional-level photography using the tool in your pocket! The Exquisite iPhone Landscape is a 3-day workshop taught by the renown photographer Dan Burkholder, author of iPhone Artistry, the essential how-to iPhone photography guide. Held at the Watermark Art Center, you will explore shooting, editing and stylizing techniques, taking you from casual photo captures to serious photographic works of art. The workshop promised to open your eyes and pump your creative juices, showing you how to capture and craft images you will be proud to share, exhibit and sell. Local field trips around the beautiful fall splendor of Bemidji are part of the course, allowing students to actively photograph with a professional instructor on-hand to guide your technique.

“CHANCE CHANTS”

Attend the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra “Chance Chants” concert, featuring dynamic young pianist Matthew Lorenz as he performs a symphonic poem based on the chant “Dies Irae.” Also on the program are “Berceuse and Finale” from Firebird by Igor Stravinsky, and the Symhonie Fantastique by Hector Berlioz. Dr. Beverly Everett conducts. Another incredible concert from the Bemidji Symphony Orchestra you won’t want to miss!

BEMIDJI BLUE OX MARATHON

The most beautiful race course anywhere! Whether you are 5 or 75, want to walk, run or watch, there are 7 different distance race options at Minnesota’s most colorful marathon—the Bemidji Blue Ox Marathon!! October 13th is the 1/2K (4:20 start), 1K (4:30 start), and 5K/10k (5:00 start) with October 14th sporting the Half Marathon, 26K Lake Loop (16.75mi), and Full Marathon. Make your run count by joining Team Edith to help fight breast cancer, or Team KICK to support the Boys and Girls Club. Not a runner, join the Cheer zone along the route for spectators to show support. Other events to enjoy this weekend include the BeActive Expo at the Sanford Center, partake in the Friday night Pasta Feed sponsored by the Bemidji Rotary, and there is even an Arts and Crafts Show at Paul Bunyan Mall.

Discover the forest as autumn peaks at the Headwaters of the Mississippi in Itasca State Park! Explore the rolling landscape along the Red Pine Trail. Stand amongst majestic red and white pine. Experience the rolling glacial hill landscape that is part of the Mississippi watershed basin. This event is sponsored by both Itasca State Park and the Itasca Moraine and Laurentian Lakes Chapters of the National North Country Trail. For more information on the hike, call 218-699-7251.

STUDIO CRUISE 2017

The First City of Arts Studio Cruise offers art lovers a unique opportunity to witness, learn about and discuss the creative process with an amazing array of artists and craftsmen. For 3 days, area artisans open their studios to share their secrets, answer your questions and display their talents. With 27 different stops, you are sure to find something you can’t live without. A beautiful, color brochure maps the three self-driving tour routes, with the featured artists found along the way.
