February 20-25, 2018

The field of 24 teams is set for the 2018 U18 National Championship at the Bemidji Curling Club. Watch the best play 12 team divisional round robin, conventional semifinals and final play. The winner of this event heads to the Championship Slam in Guelph, Ontario. Public is invited to wach, with great viewing rooms at the Club.

36th Annual Finlandia Ski Marathon is one of America’s premier cross-country skiing events. As part of Minnesota Skinnyski Series, this event has been voted “Best Course” and “Best Overall Event” by skiers of the series.The Minnesota Finlandia is a world class athletic event open to everyone. The Finlandia is truly an international event, drawing citizen and elite skiers from around the world.

Come out and snowshoe by the light of the moon and the kerosene lanterns along Schoolcraft Trail. Snowshoe at your own pace along the lantern lit route during this drop-in program. For added fun, bring along your s’mores fixings or hot dogs for cooking at the campfire.

TIME TO PRATICE FOR THE

FAT BIKE RALLY

If you plan to join us for the widely popular Fat Bike Rally held early in March, it’s time to get your practice runs in! Enjoy the single track trails at Movil Maze, and the multi-use trail at Three Island County Park. Then mark your calendar to be here, March 3 at Lake Bemidji State Park! There will be both a 10K and a 28K route, but it is not just for experienced fat bikers. Those unfamiliar with this new winter sport can check out various fat bikes, talk with fat bike experts and take a short spin in the snow on one of the bikes. Live music, food and refreshments will be provided throughout the day.

LEE BRICE CONCERT

Songwriter for legends like Tim McGraw and Jason Aldean, Lee Brice released his debut album in 2009 and has soared to recognition from there. His song “I Drive Your Truck” won Song of the Year at both the CMA and ACM awards in 2013. Brice just released his new self-titled album last November that features his already hit single “Boy.” Critically described as a “sensitive macho man,” spend an enjoyable night lost in his legendary stories in a song.

JAZZ FEST

February 2-3, 2018

Bemidji State University’s annual JazzFest, set for Feb. 2-3, features guest artists Michael Brothers and Mark Mullins. Brothers nearly forty-year career as a drummer and percussionist spans a wide range of musical experience including performances with big bands, symphony orchestras, recording sessions and Broadway, including The Phantom of the Opera.  Mullins has been changing the way people think about the trombone for 20+ years now with his unique style, approach and fresh attitude towards what the trombone can do in any musical situation. He is often given credit for raising the trombone to lead instrument status in the modern funk, rock and jam band music scenes of today.

Performances both nights at 7:30 pm in BSU’s Bangsberg Hall.

This event has a relaxed and casual tone that encourages musicians, singers, and spoken word performers of all ages and skill levels to the mic! This month the CoffeeHouse will be hosted by local musician Caige Jambor. Caige comes from a strong musical background and taught himself to play guitar at a young age. Since then he has been exploring different genres and instruments, touring and performing locally.

This thriller is an adaptation of the movie made famous by Audrey Hepburn who played Susy, a woman who recently became blind. Susy’s husband, Sam, unwittingly brings back a doll filled with heroin from Canada. Now the owners of the doll want it back and will stop at nothing to get it! And though Susy lives in the dark, her world is about to get much darker.

Exhibit runs Feb 2 – March 31

Watermark’s four galleries host rotating exhibits, free and open to the public seven days/week, including Miikanen Gallery exhibiting Native American artists. Upcoming Exhibit, Salvaged Time 1970-2018 by Don Knudson, features mixed media artwork featuring re-imagined wood elements. Knudson has been creating wood wall sculptures and furniture since the early 1960s. He creates individual work, as well as collaborations with his life partner, Marlon Davidson. This exhibit features his solo works, made with salvaged wood and natural elements.
