Winter 2020 Ice Fishing & Outdoor Reports

December 30 - Fishing Report

With the holidays and with most lakes having 12”+ of ice on most area lakes there were more folks out on the ice. There are vehicles including half ton pickups now out but know where your going! Early morning and late afternoon/evening has been your best shot at catching walleyes. Some fish are coming off the 12-14 break lines but you’ll also find some out on the deeper humps. Perch are also going in less than 10’ but you’ll also find some out on the deep humps. Look to Lake Bemidji, Plantagenet, Wolf, and Andrusia. You’ll find crappies and bluegills off the weed edges on Gull, Beltrami, and Midge lakes.

December 22 - Fishing Report

We continue to slowly build ice on Bemidji area lakes and with mid teens below zero forecast for this week that is going to really help. On the south half of Lake Bemidji there is 9-10” with a bit less on the north half. Vehicle traffic is still not happening yet but anglers are getting all over the lake on side by sides, 4-wheelers, and snowmobiles. Look for walleyes of the first break in 12-14’ using jigging spoons and minnow heads. Dead sticking is also turning some fish. You’ll find perch and pike in those same areas. Plantagenet is also turning some walleyes early and late in the day with perch going all day. Gull, Moose, and Beltrami are kicking out bluegills and crappies.

December 16 - Fishing Report

Folks have started venturing onto Lake Bemidji where there is 4-7” of ice depending on where your at on the lake. Look to the first break line for walleyes using jigging spoons and minnow heads early and late afternoon/evening. Plantagenet, Grace, and Irving are also producing walleyes early and later in the day. Look to Gull and Beltrami for some bluegills and crappies. Most of the lakes other than Bemidji have 8-10” of ice.
