About

BOREAL BOOK CLUB | May – October 2024
Join us for a season of diving deep into the natural world through reading and thoughtful group discussion!
Each month’s book club gathering will begin with a short hike (weather permitting) at the Neilson Spearhead Center nature preserve. A discussion of that month’s book will then be held while continuing to take in the sights and sounds of this beautiful, natural setting.
Books were selected with the goal of including Minnesota-specific topics, native/indigenous voices, memoir, humor/adventure, and information about the natural world that provokes awe and a closer connection to the earth.

ABOUT THE NEILSON SPEARHEAD CENTER
This 466 acre nature preserve is a true gem of the Bemidji region. Just 15 minutes southwest of town, it boasts a predominantly undisturbed ecosystem, with 5 miles of trails, paddling on Spearhead Lake, and a thriving population of native flora and fauna. When you set foot on the trails at Spearhead, you quickly feel that you are a world away from civilization! The ease of access, and sense of solitude, make it an excellent place to step out of your busy life and reflect on a good book.
