The small to medium size lakes have 8-10” of ice but with all the snow we’ve received recently there has been a little slush on some lakes.
There still isn’t much going out on Lake Bemidji, though some folks are walking out on the south end using portables and getting a few walleyes early and late in the day, no one is fishing the north end yet. This could all change by this weekend as we’ve been well below zero the past few days. Jigging spoons and minnow heads in 12-18’ are working for walleyes. You’ll find the crappies out in the deep basins on area lakes. Electronics really help as some of those fish are suspended while others are tucked near the bottom. Slip bobbers and small minnows and small jigs and plastics or wax worms are producing crappies. Have a great day on the ice, know where your going, and please remember to practice selective harvesting, by doing so we will have great fishing for years to come!
