 MINNESOTA FINLANDIA
CROSS COUNTRY SKI MARATHON
February 14-15, 2009
The Finlandia, one of America's premier cross-country skiing events, has been drawing citizen and elite skiers from around the world for 28 years.  The event is open to skiers of all levels, with the 10K Northwoods Tour for all ages, to the 25K and 50K for elite skiers.  Held at Buena Vista Ski Area's scenic trails.  

 
US & N AM SPEEDSKATING MARATHON CHAMPIONSHIPS
February 21-22, 2009
 Two exciting races involving over 50 skaters vying for the US National Marathon Speedskating Championship and the Canadians  competing with the Americans for the North American Marathon Championship.  Speedskaters from across the continent will compete on long (50K) and short (25K) track courses on Lake Bemidji. Don't miss this opportunity to watch athletes preparing for the fastest growing  Winter Olympic sport of Speedskating.  Track and spectators area is adjacent to downtown at the Bemidji waterfront. Access  to warming facilities and a variety of dining and shopping choices a block away.

                                                                        
LOGGING DAYS CELEBRATION 

Return to the historic lumberjack era of the northwoods for one glorious day.  Watch horse teams at work as you marvel at the manual logging skills, performed just as they were in the early years, using authentic equipment and harvesting methods.   Enjoy a lumberjack pancake feed in the Lumberjack Hall of Fame, sleigh rides, old-time music, saw 'n ax chopping and throwing contests.  See Chain saw sculpting demonstration, learn basic woodcarving, or take in the Paul Bunyan Magic Show.   Historic presentations and exhibits and crafts round out this family friendly event.

 
CURLING BONSPIELS
Bemidji Curling Club is  home to the 2002 & 2006 Women's and Men's USA Olympic Curling Teams.  Hosting bonspiels December through March, visitors can watch from viewing area.
