Weekend NOT TO BE MISSED in Bemidji

Memorial Day Weekend

May 26-28, 2017

Want to getaway for the holiday week but don’t have your own place? Then Bemidji is the perfect answer for you! Here you can kick off your summer and enjoy everything our splendid, lakeside city in the true northwoods has to offer!

Itasca State Park, Lake Bemidji State Park and Chippewa National Forest are all here for you to hike, bike, explore and plan a family picnic to share s’mores by the fire.

Don’t miss these two (free!) events planned May 28th at the Lake Bemidji State Park, too!

Lumberjacks – Music for Kids! Stories and songs kids will love, retelling the tales of the lumberjack’s experience in Minnesota.

Dollar-A-Day Boys! Told through music and stories, you will learn more about the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC). Then during your getaway weekend, plan a visit to Camp Rabideau, an authentically preserved CCC camp tucked in the Chippewa National Forest!

Jr Naturalist Program Kids, head outdoors and investigate the Great Animal Cover Up May 27th at Itasca State Park! Learn about animals in disguise and how they play hide and seek!

Take Flight! Spotting Spring Birds Discover the songs and sights of Minnesota’s spring migratory birds with instructor Ron Miller MD on a walk through Itasca State Park May 27th.

Consider… 25% of Minnesota’s recreational waters are found in the Bemidji area! So there is no better place to enjoy time on the water than in Bemidji! If you need a boat, rentals are available at Ruttger’s Birchmont Lodge, Bemidji State University, Lake Bemidji State Park and other, selected locations.

Bemidji has more happy trails to bike then you have time! Choose forest trails, the 125 mile Paul Bunyan Trail, or a family favorite trail that loops Lake Bemidji. And you don’t even need to pack the bikes because rentals and Nice Ride bikes are available.

Fish your favorite– walleye, bass, muskie, perch, crappies, pan fish or trout. With over 400 lakes within a 25 mile radius of Bemidji the choice is yours! Guide service is available. Not bringing a boat? You can rent one or simply try your luck off the public piers located either downtown or at Lake Bemidji State Park.

The Leech Lake Memorial Pow Wow held May 26th to the 28th at the Veteran’s Memorial Grounds at Palace Casino is an annual area event. It is an opportunity to see and learn more about the traditions, dance and culture of our Ojibwe Nation Native Americans.

Bemidji has an array of lodgings for every budget and comfort! Many of our accommodations are right on the lake, on the bike trails, close to downtown, or nestled off the beaten path!

Best of all, Memorial Day Weekend in Bemidji is WEATHERPROOF! If the weekend brings rain or a chill, there is still loads of indoor fun for the family! Enjoy the area galleries, the Headwaters Science Center, Beltrami County History Center and so much more!
